MXGP 2026, Round 3 of 19, Frauenfeld, Switzerland
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing maintained their victory streak in the 2026 FIM Motocross World Championship as Simon Laengenfelder ruled the MX2 class in Switzerland for the second time in three events this season. The team have picked up winners’ silverware in Argentina, Spain and now central Europe in the three rounds to-date with either the works KTM 250 SX-F or KTM 450 SX-F in the MXGP class.
Highlights and key moments from race day at Frauenfeld:
- Mixed fortunes for MXGP championship leader Lucas Coenen who dominates the second moto but was disqualified from the first race in Frauenfeld
- Two from three in MX2 for world champion Simon Laengenfelder as persistence and speed pays off with 1-3 moto scores. The German regains control of the red plate as series leader
- Red Bull KTM hold 1st and 3rd positions in the MX2 championship standings
MXGP changed country, terrain and climate for a cold, damp and demanding Grand Prix of Switzerland at Frauenfeld last weekend. The rutty, muddy course was technical and slow and rewarded pacing and strategy throughout the Saturday Qualification Heat and then the two 30 minutes + 2 lap motos on Sunday.
Lucas Coenen pushed from a top five start to take 2nd in the Heat on Saturday; earning the Belgian 9 points and the second pick of slots in the gate. On Sunday the Andalucian GP winner had an eventful first moto. A good start was derailed by a fall on the third corner and misplaced chain. Lucas was able to get back into the race and reached the fringes of the top ten but was then disqualified for outside assistance. In the second outing, Coenen seized the holehost and built up a lead of more than ten seconds by the fifth lap. He cruised to the finish for his third win from the last four and was 8th overall.

Andrea Adamo scorched to the Qualification Heat lead on Saturday and banked 4th place in the dash. The following day the premier class rookie suffered from a technical issue on the 14th lap of 18 which dropped him from 6th to an eventual slot of 13th. In the second moto Andrea started in the top ten and picked up another sanction for running off the course and classified 29th for 19th overall.
Simon Laengenfelder entered the MX2 Grand Prix with high expectations and plenty of partisan support. The German rode to a steady 4th place on Saturday. He then built his way up from a top five launch in the first moto on Sunday to grab the checkered flag: his third moto win of the year and a 50% ratio so far. In the second race Simon motored to P3 and the combined effort was enough for the top step of the podium and the red plate once more.

Sacha Coenen continued his Saturday excellence with a third consecutive MX2 Qualification Heat victory and Pole Position. A strong performance to take 2nd place in the first moto was offset by 7th in the second and a few mistakes that cost the young Belgian. His 36 points for the day gave him P4 for the Grand Prix.
After back-to-back races, MXGP takes a two-week pause before an Italian double in Riola Sardo and Arco di Trento. The Sardinian Grand Prix will happen on April 11-12.
Lucas Coenen, DNF and 1st for 8th overall in MXGP: “It feels good to keep the red plate but I was bit mad about the first moto. I really wanted to win that second one. I started well, didn’t crash and controlled the gap. Happy to finish on a good note. Now we look ahead two weeks to Sardinia and to continue like this.”
Andrea Adamo, 13th and 29th for 19th overall in MXGP: “Things were looking quite good in qualifying and I was happy with P4 in the Heat but then we had a lot of rain on Saturday night and that mixed the cards, let’s say. It becomes a gamble in these conditions. Things were going well in the first moto until the last three laps and I had to stop. I was able to sort it and finish the moto. I was quite proud of that! I was P9 in the second moto until I had a crash and then I had that penalty, which was quite a hard hit for the day. Not much more to say. I’m happy and not happy. 50-50! Things did not go our way but now we’ll get ready for Riola.”
Simon Laengenfelder, 1st and 3rd for 1st overall in MX2: “A good one! Tough conditions and it wasn’t an easy race – passing, and the backmarkers were tricky - but I liked it out there today. It’s usually what we find here. Yesterday was hard but I made it happen today and we got the red plate back.”

Sacha Coenen, 2nd and 7th for 4th overall in MX2: “Up-and-down weekend but mostly positive. We made some changes on the bike on Saturday and won the qualifying moto, so a good start. Sunday brought the rain and I had a bad start in the first moto. I came back to P2 and passed a lot of people but also made mistakes. It was a hard race. Another bad start in the second moto and I got brake-checked. I couldn’t really find my flow after that and finished 7th. I didn’t really like the track but we finished the GP in a pretty decent way.”
