Round four of the FIM SuperEnduro World Championships proved to be a big night out in Brazil for KTM factory riders with American Cody Webb again on the ascendency with a 1-2-2 result to take the top spot of the night in Belo Horizonte. Red Bull KTM’s Jonny Walker of the UK, last weekend’s winner in Pinamar, Argentina, finished third behind Colton Haaker with a 3-1-3 result. Walker also topped the Superpole list as till leads the championship standings.
Taylor Robert (USA) and Alfredo Gomez (ESP) grabbed the fourth and fifth places in the Prestige class to give KTM riders four of the top five finishers. KTM’s Manuel Lettenbichler, third last weekend in Argentina in the Junior Class, also returned to the top of the podium. The German teenager has won three of the four rounds so far held in the six-round championship riding the KTM 300 EXC.

Cody Webb
now has three victories to his name, but Jonny Walker is making a tenacious challenge for the title on his KTM 250 EXC-F and with two rounds remaining he is still in the lead with a nine-point advantage. The British extreme rider improved his position by picking up additional points in Brazil for his victory in the SuperPole.

Webb said he was happy to be back on the podium after delivering a thrilling end to the final race. “It all came down to the last corner for the overall and I managed to get by Jonny Walker for the win. I felt like I was riding well, but I made it hard on myself with too many mistakes, I guess we’re all just pushing so hard that it’s so easy to crash. We’ve got a weekend off now and then it’s the final two rounds back to back so everything is still to play for.”

Walker said the night had possibly not been his best but he was pleased to be still in the title fight. “Even so I was still fighting for the overall victory right up until the final corner so I think that’s positive. In the first race I rode sort of tense and just couldn’t do anything to challenge the top two guys, then in race two I focused on my own race and the win came my way. I almost had the overall but to finish third overall and only two points off the top step of the podium is good. I’ve got the championship lead with two rounds to go so I’m looking forward to getting back to Europe.”

The American Robert was also pleased with his fourth place finish on the KTM 250 XC-F: “I had a good night. I’m pleased with how I rode, especially in the final race. I was right there with Cody Webb and Jonny Walker so that was really good and I started jumping the log pit too, which no one else was doing. Tonight was definitely the best I’ve ridden all season so I just want to keep that going now for the final two rounds and end the series strong.”

The penultimate round of the FIM SuperEnduro world Championship is set from Prague in the Czech Republic on March 12. The season will come to a festive end in the final round in Madrid, Spain’s Plaza de Toros one week later.
