Round 2 - WORCS - February 3, 2019

DEVORE, Calif. – FMF KTM Factory Racing’s Taylor Robert continued his winning ways on Sunday, capturing the Round 2 victory in the 2019 World Off-Road Championship Series (WORCS) at Glen Helen Raceway in Devore, California.

With plenty of rainfall taking place in Southern California this week, including during Sunday’s race day, track conditions at Glen Helen Raceway proved to be much wetter than usual. Due to the unfavorable weather conditions, the race was shortened by 30 minutes, making for a 90-minute race at Round 2.

Robert didn’t get the best jump off the start as he began the race back in seventh place. He quickly pushed his KTM 450 XC-F into second on the opening lap before making a pass into the lead on lap two. He extended his lead to as much as 45 seconds midway through the race and from there he balanced his gap to ultimately win by 50 seconds.

Robert: “It rained for the last couple days out there and I don’t think I’ve ever done a WORCS race that’s been that wet. I was actually pretty excited because it’s something different and technical and they did a really good job laying out the course. It was one of the best offroad courses I’ve raced in a while. I was kind of excited to have that in combination with the rain. After getting an okay start, I started making some moves and on the second lap, I made my way into first. I just kind of rode my own race from there, it was a little bit of survival because it never stopped raining and it was really cold. I pulled out a little bit of a gap and tried to keep that pace as best I could but Gary [Sutherlin] actually closed up on me on the second-to-last lap, so on the last lap both him and I were charging really hard. It kind of worked out in my favor with the lappers, I played it pretty smart with them and made good line choices. All-in-all it was a good race, I was really impressed with the course and just excited to win the first two races of the season. The next race is in Arizona, which is one of my favorite tracks, so I’m looking forward to that!”

KTM-mounted riders Gary Sutherlin and Dante Oliveira (FMF/RPM/KTM Racing Team Maxxis) rounded out the Pro podium with solid performances on Sunday.

In the Pro 2 division, FMF/RPM/KTM Racing Team Maxxis rider Austin Serpa finished on the podium with a second-place finish.

In Pro 2 Lites, KTM-mounted rider Will Riordan claimed the class victory, with KTM-mounted rider Tyler Toline rounding out the podium in third KTM-Supported rider Brandy Richards had another great performance, earning a top-five finish in the Pro 2 Lites class.
