Round 7 - WORCS - July 31, 2019

MCCLEARY, Wa. – Round 7 of the World Off-Road Championship Series took place on Wednesday afternoon in McCleary, Washington for a unique rendition of the WORCS schedule. After leading seven of the eight laps, FMF KTM Factory Racing’s Taylor Robert ultimately came away with second overall following an unlucky series of events on the final lap of racing.

Robert, who came into the seventh round with a six-race winning streak behind him, got off to a great start aboard the KTM 450 XC-F as he rounded the opening lap in the lead. He put forth a dominant performance throughout the nearly two-hour race before getting stopped up on the eighth and final lap. Robert was positioned behind a lapped rider heading through the final single-track section and despite all attempts to get by, he wasn’t able to make a move in the tight terrain. Unfortunately, the other rider ended up crashing on top of Robert, causing a small pileup on the trail. Robert, being at the bottom, was forced to wait for everyone else to get up before re-mounting, which resulted in him being passed for the lead late in the race. Despite a hard-charge, Robert was unable to make up the lost time in the short distance to the finish, leaving him to claim second for the first time all season.

Robert: “I didn’t make any mistakes until the last lap and unfortunately a lapper was hanging me up in the single-track section and I followed him for about 30 seconds before he fell on top of me. Thad [DuVall] tried to go in-between us and he fell on top of both of us, so I had to wait for both of them to get their bikes before I could go. I was really bummed on that because I led like 95% of the race but I felt like I rode really well and Thad’s one of the best guys in the world and it’s tough racing. Now I know what I need to do for next weekend, clean up some mistakes and hopefully him and I can have a good race.”

FMF/RPM/KTM Racing Team Maxxis rider Dante Oliveira finished just off the podium in fourth overall as he continues to put forth a solid performance this season.

In Pro 2, FMF/RPM/KTM Racing Team Maxxis rider Cooper Abbott earned his second podium finish of the season with a solid ride in Washington.

In Pro 2 Lites, KTM-mounted riders swept second- through sixth-place in the class with Seven Diaz leading the pack in second-place. KTM-supported rider Brandy Richards rounded out the podium in the class, where she sits only 10 points back in second-place for the championship standings.
