Round 2 - AMA National Hare & Hound Championship
JERICHO, Utah – FMF KTM Factory Racing’s Taylor Robert came away from Round 2 of the AMA National Hare & Hound Championship all smiles and in the center of the podium after two and a half hours of intense, yet enjoyable, racing in Idaho. It was all but easy for the Round 1 winner as he experienced a setback late in the race that forced him to claw his way back to a late-race triumph just before the checkers.

Off the start, Robert powered his KTM 450 XC-F to the front of the pack and he diced it out for the lead going into the end of the bomb. Robert assumed the early lead dropping into the canyon first but Dalton Shirey quickly snuck by, setting a charge out front early on. Maintaining a steady pace in second, Robert kept the leader within his sights, eventually making his move into the lead through the alternate pit.

With only a two-second lead at the end of the first loop, Robert worked on creating a gap over the rest of the field in the second loop but he got lost about mid-way through, which allowed Shirey to get back by for the lead. The Round 1 winner put his head down and made another charge to catch the leader late in the race and from there, it was a head-to-head battle down to the finish with Robert edging out the competition by a mere 10 seconds.

Taylor Robert: “We got spoiled today with the good dirt and the three of us were just moto-ing out there in a good old fashioned, super high-paced trail ride. I was just kind of pacing off Dalton until I got in front of him and he was doing the same thing to me, so it was fun riding. Through the pit, I made it out clean and really pushed in the second loop. That second loop was killer! The sand-washes were fun and it had a lot of flow. It opened back up at the end and I got lost a little bit, which allowed Dalton to get back by me and we had a drag race at the end. All-in-all, it was really good. I had a blast out there and I’m happy to take home another win.”

With two victories in as many rounds, Robert holds the early lead in the championship standings with a perfect score of 60 points.
