Round 5 - AMA National Hare & Hound Championship - May 7, 2018

JERICHO, Utah – The 2018 AMA National Hare and Hound Championship made its return to Jericho, Utah on Saturday for Round 5 of the 10-round series. KTM Factory Racing’s Taylor Robert battled from behind in the dustiest of conditions to place his KTM 450 XC-F in the center of the podium after two and a half hours of hard-charging. Robert’s victory marks his third of the season, where he’s won every race he’s entered in 2018 despite missing two rounds early on due to injury.

For the start of Saturday’s race, Robert didn’t get a favorable jump and he was forced to work his way through the pack from outside the top 50 on the opening lap. Battling through the dust of all the riders ahead, Robert had a challenging journey to the front. By the end of the first loop he was up to the second-place position and he really dropped the hammer on the second loop as he moved into the lead and pulled a gap of over three and a half minutes by the end of the race.

Taylor Robert:It was one of the dustiest races I've ever experienced so I had my work cut out for me. It took me about 30 miles to work my way into the top three and by the time I was in third I couldn't even see the guys up ahead of me. I just put my head down and charged as hard as I could. I made the pass for second just before the end of the first loop and my mechanic told me I was 1:15 down from first when I came into the pits. I kept pushing as hard as I could and made my way into first around the 55-mile mark. Luckily, my fitness has come back pretty strong since my injury because I was able to get out front and pull a comfortable gap for the last 25 miles or so.”
