Round 8 - WORCS - August 5, 2019

MCCLEARY, Wa. – FMF KTM Factory Racing’s Taylor Robert claimed a runner-up finish on Saturday after a hard-fought battle at Round 8 of the World Off-Road Championship Series in McCleary, Washington. Robert’s consistency has allowed him to extend his points lead in the class to 36 as the series winds down to the final three rounds of racing.

On Saturday, Robert powered his KTM 450 XC-F into second-place off the start and he quickly took over the reins about four turns into the opening lap. He led the first four laps uncontested before Thad DuVall joined the lead battle on lap five. The two riders diced back-and-forth several times until Robert came in for a pit stop, which allowed DuVall to distance himself out front. Robert put forth a valiant effort to close the gap in the final laps but he wasn’t able to make up the time, thus finishing 34 seconds back for second overall.

Robert: “I started off feeling like I was riding really well, really smooth and making a lot less mistakes than I did the race before. I could feel Thad catching up to me and then I got tangled up with a couple lappers and he ended up catching me. We had a really good battle going but he got away from me a little bit when I pitted, and from there I just had a really hard time holding his pace. All in all, I felt like I rode really well. The track was really muddy and slippery – definitely one of the most technical races that we’ve had all year but I’m happy with how it went and I came away extending the points lead going into the last few rounds.”

FMF/RPM/KTM Racing Team Maxxis rider Dante Oliveira finished just off the podium once again with a solid fourth-place.

In Pro 2, FMF/RPM/KTM Racing Team Maxxis rider Cooper Abbott earned his third podium finish of the season with a third-place finish at Round 8. In Pro 2 Lites, KTM-mounted rider Seven Diaz finished on the second step of the podium with a great performance in Washington.
