Round 7 - WORCS - September 17, 2018
DEVORE, Calif. – FMF KTM Factory Racing’s Taylor Robert battled through adversity on Saturday to earn his fourth WORCS victory of the season with a dominant performance in the Pro (MC) division at Glen Helen Raceway. Although he has missed two rounds this season due to injury, Robert continues his perfect win-record in WORCS after winning all four rounds he’s entered in 2018. With two rounds remaining, Robert will continue to fight for the 2018 championship, where he sits within striking distance in fourth.
Plagued with injury this season, Robert has been remarkable in his efforts to recover and continuously fight for the top position. Coming into Round 7 of WORCS, Robert was ready to race his KTM 450 XC-F for the first time since sustaining an injury in August. However, a crash at the beginning of Friday’s practice session gave Robert a shake-up but after a quick trip to the hospital it was determined that he did not sustain any major injuries. Robert and his FMF KTM Factory Racing Team decided to attempt Saturday morning’s practice session, which gave him the green light to continue on with the day’s racing.
Robert powered his way to a third-place position off the start, quickly making his way into second on the opening lap. Robert pushed really hard to pass race leader Zach Bell before entering the dusty offroad section of the track, which gave him a great advantage early on. From there, Robert swapped the lead position several times with Bell before making a charge in the latter half of the race to create as much as a 35-second gap over the second-place rider. Robert experienced a small tip-over on the last lap but he was able to quickly remount and cruise his way to the finish with a 29-second margin over second-place.
Taylor Robert:“The track was dry, rough and dusty! I knew a good start was going to be important because of the dust. I didn’t get the holeshot like I was hoping, but I made quick work of a couple guys then set my sights on Zach Bell. He was riding really well and we ended up going back-and-forth about four times before I finally broke away.”
In the Pro 2 (MC) class, KTM-mounted rider Mitch Anderson rode to a solid third-place finish, where he now holds an 11-point lead in the championship standings. Robby Schott rode his KTM to a second-place finish in the Pro 2 Lites (MC) class to earn his second podium finish of the season.
