Round 1 - American Flat Track Championship - March 14, 2019

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The 2019 American Flat Track Championship got underway on Thursday with the Daytona TT opener from the renowned Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team’s Dan Bromley got off to a great start in defending his 2018 AFT Singles Championship with a third-place podium finish at Round 1.

Bromley immediately felt right at home aboard his KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION, qualifying third overall in the practice sessions. In AFT Singles Heat 3, Bromley got off to a good start, where he battled early on with KTM-mounted rider Ryan Sipes. Bromley eventually made the pass into the lead to claim his first heat race win of the season. In the Semi, Bromley finished third to seed himself into the evening’s Main Event. At the start of the Main, he put himself into a top-four position right away as he battled his way into third early on. From there, the Pennsylvania native maintained a solid pace inside the top-three to ultimately secure a podium finish at the season opener.

Dan Bromley: “Overall, I’m super happy to be able to walk away on the podium and hopefully continue on to a consistent season. I was really happy with the bike from the start, we basically had everything working perfectly from testing. We’re definitely going to put the homework in and come back swinging at Atlanta and hopefully continue the podium streak.”

It was a challenging day for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team’s Shayna Texter, who did not qualify into the racing portion of the Daytona TT.

Shayna Texter: “Today was a little bit of a challenging day for me. I felt like I’ve made a lot of progress compared to other TT races in the past. One of the things I worked on a lot in the off-season was jumping and I felt really strong off the jump. I was struggling a little bit through the dirt track sections, which is a little bit unusual for me, but the track was rough and I experienced a little bit of tank slapping. But overall, it gives us a good base to improve on from here on out and I’m definitely looking forward to Atlanta. I feel like I have a great bike and a great team behind me and I’m ready to go racing ovals!”

Team Manager, Chris Fillmore: “Overall, coming in here with a new program and a new team, we know we’re going to have to shake out the bugs a little bit. We’re really proud of Dan’s performance, he rode really well, stayed calm and did all the right things to seal himself a podium at the first race. Shayna has been working really hard this off-season and she’s going to continue to put her head down and chip away at these TT tracks. We’re looking forward to the Atlanta Short Track next weekend.”
