The Hitachi KTM fuelled by Milwaukee team tackled the sandy terrain of Mantova once again on Sunday – the Italian venue hosted the 11th round of the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship, dubbed the Grand Prix of Europe. Conrad Mewse, Bas Vaessen and Adam Sterry represented the KTM outfit in front of a limited number of spectators.

Mewse continued to showcase his true potential, as he logged the third-fastest time in qualifying and then backed that up again in moto one. Mewse again took a great start aboard his KTM 250 SX-F and pushed for a spot inside of the top three, which he picked up on lap two. Third was his ranking at the end of the moto, but he pushed the leaders the entire way. Just four seconds separated him from the race win! The third in moto one set him up for a strong overall result as well.

The second race was just as solid and consistent, as Mewse started in the lower half of the top ten and did not falter once. A steady race helped him climb up to sixth at the chequered flag, which left him fifth overall on the day. That meant that only one point separated him from a spot up on the overall podium! Mewse had a strong haul of points whilst in Italy, so he now sits eighth in the championship standings and is within striking distance of seventh.

Things continued to trend in the right direction for Bas Vaessen, who battled from 15th to tenth in the first moto with some superb passes. The times that he posted confirmed that he has the pace to push even higher up the rankings, but unfortunately a few falls stopped him from doing that in the final moto. 16th overall was his final position at the end of the Grand Prix of Europe – he now sits in 21st in the series standings.

Adam Sterry endured a day that was very similar to what he experienced on Wednesday, as he proved that he has the speed to sit inside of the points in the premier class quite comfortably. Getting caught up in the chaos on the opening couple of laps made things tricky for him again, but he still secured three points and built on his championship total.

Hitachi KTM fuelled by Milwaukee will now turn their attention to the next stop on the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship schedule, the Grand Prix of Spain. The new track of intu Xanadu – Arroyomolinos will host the 12th round.

Conrad Mewse: “It's been a very productive week in Italy! I'm happy with my progression over the last few weeks and we're now scoring solid points consistently, so it is only a matter of time now! Thanks to my whole team and everyone in my corner.”

Adam Sterry: “It was a difficult day again. I felt good at times but start crashes and a few mistakes are costing me. I only rode a few times after puncturing my lung before racing here, so race practice is what I need. We will get some good riding in this week, eliminate the mistakes in Spain and hopefully be where I want to be.”
