Wright and Patterson star after four RC 390-powered races in Scotland

The 2016 Santander Consumer Finance KTM British Junior Cup passed the halfway point in Scotland this past weekend with the Knockhill circuit hosting four of the championship’s 20 races.

After missing all three races at the previous round at Brands Hatch in May due to a breaking his wrist during practice, former championship leader Arron Wright was back with a bang. Fastest in dry practice and wet qualifying, the young Northern Irishman was determined to recoup the 75 points lost at the Kent circuit and did just that by winning the first three races. Unfortunately, Sunday’s wet final race saw the 15-year old clip a kerb on the first lap, crashing unhurt.

Despite Wright continuing his form of winning every race he’s finished, arguably the stand-out rider of the meeting was Lewis Paterson. The 15-year old from Scone, Perth, took advantage of the hire bike service offered to wild card at his ‘home’ event, having done the same in 2015 with a best finish then of 9th from the four races.

Consistently fast in all conditions, Lewis started the meeting with a third position and backed it up two second places before rounding out his weekend with a magnificent display in the wet with a win. Hopefully a rider to look out for in the 2017 series…

Another great performance came from Scott Swann on the Team #109 bike, taking three podiums including a second place and scoring more points in Knockhill’s four races than he had managed in his previous seven starts.

Series coordinator, Steve Plater, said: “Not taking anything away from Arron’s comeback performance, but Lewis Patterson is my rider of the meeting. He took full advantage of the hire bike to wildcard and demonstrate his ability. He raced at Knockhill last year on the RC Cup machine with ok results, but to come back again a year later against these boys who have ridden all season and be fast in the wet and dry to get these results is very impressive.

“Alongside this we have Scott Swann who is fast maturing and his first win can’t be far around the corner. The championship is far from over; T-Fox Moreton had an up-and-down event and is only 26 points off the lead. I can’t wait for Snetterton!”

The championship continues at Snetterton on July 8-10th. For more information visit www.ktmRCcup.com
