The provisional race calendar for the 2016 Santander Consumer Finance KTM British Junior Cup has been announced with the series returning for eight rounds next season.
The provisional race calendar for the 2016 Santander Consumer Finance KTM British Junior Cup has been announced with the series returning for eight rounds next season.

The exciting one-make series, held within the MCE British Superbike Championship, utilises a ‘Cup’ specification version of the popular KTM RC 390 road bike and single tyre rule for riders aged 13-18 of all experiences to participate within the highest profile domestic series in the World through a cost effective package.

By competing for a British championship with televised coverage of the races, competitors in the series will significantly gain exposure as well as the experience from being within the BSB paddock. Former British champion and TT winner, Steve Plater, returns as series coordinator to coach the riders in all aspects of the race weekend. The 2016 season will also feature media training from KTM to help educate the young riders on how to conduct themselves in interviews, create news updates and also to help them raise their own profiles in order to maintain and attract sponsors.

Taking in some of the UK’s best circuits, the series still retains 20 races, but focusses them into a six-month period from April 8 to September 18. The eight round 2016 championship begins where the 2015 one ended; at the historic Silverstone circuit. In early October 2015, the Northamptonshire track played host to the final of the British series as well as the first ever KTM RC Cup World Final – bringing all the best RC riders from across the world to see who was the ‘best of the best’ along with the chance to win incredible prizes.

The venue and date for the 2016 KTM RC Cup World Final is still to be decided, but September 30 to October at Assen, Holland, is looking a strong possibility.

Stuart Higgs, Series and Race Director of MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship, said:“The series doesn’t just provide riders with a fair and level playing field to demonstrate their talent, there’s a proper structure in place to nurture talent, led by Steve Plater. In 2015 we had riders participating that had come from the Moto3 class, MiniMoto, MiniGP, supermoto and even motocross. By the end of the year, all the riders had adapted well, had a huge amount of fun and also perfected their race craft. This resulted in truly epic racing that got everyone’s attention, culminating in the spectacular RC Cup World Final that proved such a success”
