Day 3 of International Six Days Enduro (ISDE)
LOMBARDY-PIEDMONT, Italy – The U.S. Women’s Trophy Team has extended their lead to more than eight minutes following another stellar day of racing at day three of the 2021 FIM International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) in Lombardy-Piedmont, Italy. Brandy Richards, on the KTM 350 XC-F, holds a five-and-a-half minute lead individually as she vies for top honors in the Women’s classification. KTM’s Dante Oliveira was fifth fastest in the Junior World Trophy category, helping the U.S. team hold strong at only three minutes outside the lead spot. In the World Trophy division, Taylor Robert had a challenging but consistent day, earning sixth overall individually as the team still remains third in the premier category.
WORLD TROPHY TEAM (WT)
Robert overcame his biggest challenge at the start of the day as he found himself on the ground after hitting a tree in the opening test. He quickly rebounded with a top-three finish in test two and from there he got into a groove that allowed him to carry three top-five finishes through the day. Johnny Girroir (GASGAS) posted his best overall finish of the week in 11th, while Layne Michael (Yamaha) contributed a 13th-place score towards the U.S. team’s third-place standing in the World Trophy category.
Taylor Robert: “Today had its up and downs, I started off with a crash in the very first test where I hit a tree and lost about 20 seconds or so right off the bat, so that was unfortunate. Then I picked it back up in the second test and stayed consistent all day. Aside from the second test, I didn’t have any tests that were great but I didn’t have any tests that were terrible either. It’s not exactly where I was hoping to be but we still have a long two days of enduro in front of us, and then the moto, so I’m excited for some fresh tests tomorrow, the stuff we’ve been riding is pretty beat now.”
JUNIOR WORLD TROPHY TEAM (JWT)
The U.S. Junior World Trophy Team continues to hold second overall halfway into the week with KTM’s Dante Oliveira holding strong aboard the KTM 450 XC-F. Cody Barnes (Honda) had a breakthrough day, finishing just in front of Oliveira as the fourth fastest JWT rider and top American in the category. Coming off a rough crash during yesterday’s racing, Austin Walton (Husqvarna) dusted himself off and put forth top-15 results all day, giving the team an all-around consistent performance on day three.
Dante Oliveira: “I started off pretty awesome with the hybrid test, I was ripping that pretty smooth and then ended up hitting the ground twice in the next test, first falls of the week, and then I fell again in one of the transfers (three falls). I struggled in the Military Test two times today and then we finished it off with the hybrid test and I was able to open it up again and finish strong, so it was a solid day.”
WOMEN’S WORLD TROPHY TEAM
With Richards in a league of her own out front, American teammate Rachel Gutish (Husqvarna) continues to contribute strong results for the U.S. Women’s World Trophy Team with another top-five overall finish on day three.
Brandy Richards: “My day was pretty good, I started out a little slow on the first couple tests, just trying to get warmed up and stay consistent. I started picking up the speed a little bit and felt really phenomenal on the bike today. I just rode really great, no big mistakes, and had a great day.”
