Round 1 - AMA National Grand Prix Championship
DELANO, Calif. – FMF KTM Factory Racing’s Dante Oliveira got off to a strong title defense in the AMA National Grand Prix Championship as he battled his way to a podium finish at Sunday’s opening round. Held at American MX in Delano, California, the SoCal GP delivered close racing and challenging conditions to start off the new season and Oliveira is poised and ready to race toward his third-consecutive title in 2022.

The reigning champion got off to a second-place start but he went down on the opening lap, causing him to drop back a few positions early in the race. He fought his way back up to third by the second lap and from there he set his sights on catching the lead battle of Austin Walton and Cole Martinez ahead. Despite putting himself within striking distance late in the race, Oliveira wasn’t able to make anything happen in the final laps and he brought it in for a third-place podium finish at the season opener.

Dante Oliveira: “It was a great weekend back at the races but it’s definitely not where I wanted to finish. The guys were on it today! I had a little tip-over on lap one and a few guys got around me so I battled back around them pretty quick and settled into third. Austin was out there pulling away from us and I just tried to put my head down and reel him and Cole back in. I got a little close and could’ve put in a charge to get around them but I just wasn’t able to get there. It was a good race, the bike worked great and I’m looking forward to the rest of the year battling with these guys, everybody’s on it so it should be awesome!”

FMF/Maxxis/RPM KTM Racing’s Mateo Oliveira had a strong start to the series as he claimed the Round 1 victory in the Pro 2 division.

Additionally, KTM-supported rider Brandy Richards put forth a dominant performance in the Pro Women’s class, also earning an impressive 25th overall on the day.
