Round 5 - AMA EnduroCross Championship - November 2, 2020
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – FMF KTM Factory Racing’s Trystan Hart overcame a tough night at Monday’s penultimate round of the AMA EnduroCross Championship as he fought through a nagging hand injury to earn a third-place podium finish at Glen Helen Raceway.
Coming into tonight’s race, Hart sustained a hand injury that made it difficult for him to simply put his hand on the handlebar but the young Canadian rider powered through the pain to earn valuable points toward the 2020 championship. In race one, Hart grabbed the holeshot aboard his KTM 350 EXC-F and led the first two laps before making a mistake on the k-rail section, which allowed points leader Colton Haaker to get by. Fighting through the pain of his injured hand, Hart put forth his best effort to stay in the lead battle but he wasn’t able to make a strike, ultimately finishing second in the first race.
With the inverted start in race two, Hart didn’t get the best jump as he got pushed wide off the start but he was able to cut back in on the next turn and overtake third coming into the rocks. However, he went down in the rocks and was forced to work his way through the pack for the remainder of the race. He made his way up to third with three to go and from there he challenged fellow KTM rider Cooper Abbott for second but a mistake on the tire steps cost him too much time and he ultimately settled for third.
Heading into the final race, Hart was still in the running for the overall win as he sat neck-and-neck with Cody Webb in the overall points. With another top-three start, Hart latched onto the lead pack right away but he quickly lost his momentum with a crash in the rocks and he was forced to once again climb through the field. He got up to fourth on lap five as he engaged in an intense battle for the final podium position, applying great pressure to the third-place rider of Abbott but he went down again on the tire steps with two laps to go. He fought hard to make up the lost time at the end of the race but he ultimately finished just off the podium with fourth.
Trystan Hart: “Yesterday I could barely put my hand on the handlebar when I tried so I was not feeling too confident about today but I tried to have an open mind out on the track today. It was kind of an up-and-down day overall but the first two motos went pretty well, all things considered. I got a good start in the last moto but then threw it away in the rocks and ended up fourth in the last moto for third overall.”
FMF/RPM/KTM Racing Team Maxxis’ Cooper Abbott continued to prove his merit amongst a highly-talented field of Pro class riders with another top performance at Round 5. The young rider mixed it up in the lead battles throughout the night, where he scored two solid podium finishes with second in race two and third in race three. With combined scores of 7-2-3, Abbott earned fourth overall for the third-consecutive round.
It was another dominant night for KTM-supported rider, Shelby Turner, who claimed her fifth-straight win in the Women’s Class, as well as an impressive 1-1 sweep in the Amateur division.
The sixth and final round of the 2020 AMA EnduroCross Series will take place on Tuesday, November 3 at Glen Helen Raceway. For more information on the series and full results, visit
