Round 1 - AMA National Enduro Championship
WEDGEFIELD, S.C. – FMF KTM Factory Racing’s Josh Toth opened up the 2022 AMA National Enduro Championship on a strong note as he captured a third-place podium finish at Sunday’s Sumter National in Wedgefield, South Carolina.

Officially kicking off the east coast offroad racing schedule, the iconic Sumter National delivered rough and tumble conditions with sandy, fresh terrain that proved to be difficult to read at times. Despite the unpredictability, Toth was able to navigate his way through to finish consistently inside the top-six through all six of the day’s tests.

As last year’s runner-up in the championship, Toth carried great momentum into the day as he rode his KTM 350 XC-F to a second-place finish in the first test. He remained smooth and steady in the next two sections, picking up third and fifth-place scores before charging his way to a test-win in the fourth test. He rounded out the day with fifth and sixth-place test finishes, which secured him a spot on the overall podium at Round 1.

Josh Toth: “Overall, it was a pretty good day. We were just kind of getting the jitters out for the first race and getting comfortable on the bike. We made a few changes early in the day and that really helped me out towards the end. I was able to get on the podium today so I’m stoked with that, it’s a good start to the season and we’ll go from here and start clicking off wins.”

The opening round was a day of survival for teammate Ben Kelley, who came away with a seventh-place finish in South Carolina. Kelley came into the day strong, claiming third in the opening test aboard his KTM 350 XC-F. With a sixth in test two, Kelley looked to be on-track for a battle up front but a couple of mistakes dropped him back a few spots to finish 10th in test three. He bounced back in the second half of the day, finishing 5-6-7 to round out the day in seventh overall.

Ben Kelley: “It’s the first race so I’m happy to come away unscathed and just a little beat up. The National Enduros are always rough on the body, smashing off the trees when you don’t know what’s coming but I’m happy and excited to be back racing. I enjoyed it and that’s what I was trying to do, have some fun and do the best I could. I felt like I rode good, I got some things to work on but I’m happy for the first race of the season and I feel like I can build and fight for those podiums.”
