Round 6 - AMA National Enduro Series - September 20, 2020
PARK HILLS, Mo. – The FMF KTM Factory Racing Team fought through a challenging day at Round 6 of the 2020 AMA National Enduro Championship as team riders Josh Toth and Ben Kelley finished fourth and fifth-place, respectively, in the NE Pro1 division.
Coming off two straight race-wins, Toth was looking to keep his momentum rolling at the Lead Belt National. However, extremely dusty conditions and low visibility made for a difficult day of racing as Toth struggled to maintain a fast pace throughout the day. He finished fourth in the first two tests before putting on a charge to jump up to second-place in tests three and four, inserting himself into the lead battle going into the final two tests. With a fourth in test five, Toth gave it his all in the sixth and final test only to have a big crash that left him with a hand injury to round out the day in fourth overall. Toth, who now sits tied for the lead in the championship standings, will have his hand further evaluated on Monday to assess the severity.
Josh Toth: “It was just an all-around tough day for me. The dusty conditions were very difficult, I felt that I was riding well when I could see the ground but it was very tricky to navigate through the other riders because you couldn’t see anything until the last second. The scores were close all day and I was in striking distance of the win towards the end of the day but unfortunately a crash in the last test left me banged up and salvaged a fourth on the day.”
It was an uneventful day for team rider Ben Kelley, who put forth a consistent string of finishes throughout the day. With the exception of test two, Kelley maintained top-five finishes all throughout the day to secure fifth overall, where he sits third overall in the championship standings with one win behind him this season.
Ben Kelley: “It was a pretty smooth day for me other than one crash. The track was dry and dusty, making it hard to see all of the loose rocks. It was just a mediocre day for me, nothing really crazy.”
Next Round: October 4 – Muddobbers National in Matthews, Indiana
