Brive, FRANCE – With just the final day motocross races to go, FMF KTM Factory Racing Team’s Taylor Robert remains at the head of the Enduro 3 class and in a provisional third place in the overall individual standings at the 92nd running of the FIM International Six Days Enduro. Enjoying their best day of the event, the USA’s Women’s World Trophy team of Kacy Martinez, Brandy Richards and Rebecca Sheets earned their first day win, finishing 15 seconds ahead of Australia.
With Loic Larrieu having the one-minute time penalty he picked up earlier in the event overturned, the French rider moved to the top of the overall individual results, with Robert sitting behind second-placed Josep Garcia. Just eight seconds behind Garcia, Taylor also holds more than a one-minute lead in the Enduro 3 class
Taylor Robert: “I’m third overall, which is good, and leading the Enduro 3 class, but I had two really bad tests right at the start of the fifth day, which I wasn’t too pleased about. The two riders ahead of me in the overall results aren't in the same race as me, so there’s nothing more I can do now other than making sure I have a good race. Then we’ll just have to see what the final outcome is. The fifth day was pretty similar to the first and second days were – dry and dusty. Although I didn't get a great start to the day I was happy with the way the day ended.”
Putting together a day he was happy with, Kailub Russell placed 10th in the Enduro 2 class. Despite punching a hole in his radiator, he rode consistently throughout the day, placing seventh in class on three special tests. Kailub now sits seventh on the overall E2 class standings ahead of the final day motocross races.
Kailub Russell: “I had a pretty good day really. I guess it was a normal ISDE day, but generally things went well. I hit a track stake on one of the tests and put a hole in my radiator, so I there was a little bit of drama. But it’s always a good feeling to get to the end of day five. My times were much improved over the days earlier in the week, so that was good. It’s tough when other riders have had a good start to the week and are really only just focused on charging hard and trying to get the overall. I’m looking forward to the final motocross now.”
Putting themselves at the top of the Women’s World Trophy team results for the first time, team USA produced an impressive performance on day five to claim a deserved class win. They now head into the final motocross races comfortably ahead of France and seven minutes behind Australia, looking to wrap-up a great week of racing with a podium result.
Kacy Martinez: “Today went pretty well. I’m a little frustrated that I didn’t improve my speed earlier in the week, but I guess there was a lot to get used to. I really enjoyed today and felt like I rode strong all day. Although it’s been along week I didn't feel too tired, so I was also pleased with that. Although we rode the same tests as yesterday, and I didn't enjoy them too much yesterday, I did enjoy them today. They were certainly rougher and maybe that helped me.”
Brandy Richards: “I had a really good day and won two tests, so I’m really pleased with that. I did get stuck in one of the wooded sections of one of the tests, but that didn't cost me too much team. With this being the first enduro I’ve done there’s definitely been a lot to take in and learn, but I’ve enjoyed it and really want to come back and race more ISDEs. I think that with more experience we could really start to challenge for some good results in the years to come.”
Rebecca Sheets: “Day five was my worst day of racing, but I’m not too disappointed. It just wasn’t the best of days. I had a couple of good tests but I went down in just about every test. I had to keep telling myself that I just needed to keep things moving and that it was the last full day. We did great as a team, we got the win. I’m happy that the hard part of the race is over now and I just hope that we can all ride well in the final motos and wrap this event up in a positive way.”
