AMA Tennessee Knockout Extreme Enduro (TKO) - August 19, 2018

SEQUATCHIE,Tenn. – FMF KTM Factory Racing’s Cody Webb once again proved to be the “King of TKO” after securing his sixth-consecutive AMA Tennessee Knockout Extreme Enduro (TKO) victory on Sunday at arguably the toughest course the event has ever seen. Red Bull KTM-supported rider Manuel Lettenbichler had an impressive performance in his first-ever TKO event, finishing second overall to give the new 2019 KTM 300 XC-W TPI a dominate 1-2 performance in its U.S. racing debut.

After nine weeks off the bike due to a broken foot and torn MCL, Webb eased himself into Sunday’s four-part event. He turned the fastest hot lap of the session with a time of 4:33.755 on the short course, besting the next finisher by 9.712 seconds to assume the first starting position in Knockout Race 1. With limited time on the new bike due to his injury recovery process, Webb knew what he needed to do in order to emerge victorious after the challenging main event. He conserved his energy in the two “knockout races,” finishing third in Knockout Race 1 and he was one of five riders to win their group for Knockout Race 2. Meanwhile, Lettenbichler finished just ahead of Webb for second in Knockout Race 1 and he, too, topped his group in Knockout Race 2, which advanced both riders to front-row start positions for the Final Knockout (Main Event).

In the Final Knockout, Webb got off to a good start and climbed his way into the lead early on. From there, he focused on charging ahead and he began opening a gap on the rest of the field. He maintained a solid lead for the remainder of the race to finish 1:28.186 ahead of German rider Manuel Lettenbichler.

Webb: “It was unreal for me to get my sixth TKO win in a row! I was a little stressed out coming into the event, just because I knew I wasn’t as prepared as I would have liked to be after breaking my foot and tearing my MCL. Skills-wise I felt comfortable and my foot felt good, but physically I knew I wasn’t in the best of shape just because it’s so hard to get ready when your foot is broken. I conserved a lot of energy throughout the day and I knew the Main Event was the one that counted the most. I just want to thank the team, they did a really good job helping us, giving us time splits and everything so I knew where I was. They really helped out a lot. I’m just so happy to be able to take a big win like that straight off injury. It definitively feels good to be back racing. I felt like I belonged there and it’s awesome to take the win.”

Trail Jester’s/KTM Racing’s Ben Kelley finished ninth in the Final Knockout after a challenging day of racing. In Knockout Race 1, Kelley finished tenth to transfer into Knockout Race 2, where he earned a 13th place transfer position into the Final Knockout of the day. Kelley powered through to finish with a solid top-ten aboard the 2019 KTM 300 XC-W TPI.

It was a tough day for FMF KTM Factory Racing’s Josh Toth, who attempted to fight through an illness that eventually dropped him out of competition after Knockout Race 1. Riding aboard the 2019 KTM 300 XC-W TPI, Toth claimed the eighth fastest hot lap time and 11th in Knockout Race 1 before making the tough decision to end his day early due to an illness.
