PRESCOTT, Ariz. – The 2018 AMA EnduroCross Series kicked off on Saturday from the Prescott Valley Events Center in Prescott, Arizona where the FMF KTM Factory Racing Team claimed their presence with a pair of victories from Cody Webb in the Super EnduroCross class and Kacy Martinez in the Women’s division.

Things didn’t come easy for Webb, who fought hard to earn the first Super EnduroCross victory of the season in only his second race back from injury. The three-time Super EnduroCross Champion kicked off the day on a high note as he set the fastest hot lap time to earn a top gate pick for Heat #1. There, Webb battled his way through the field to make a last-lap pass for the win, transferring into the Main Event with ease.

In the Main Event, Webb powered his way to the front early on but he was quickly joined by Colton Haaker for what would prove to be an exciting battle for the center of the podium. Webb and Haaker diced back-and-forth throughout the entire nineteen-lap race, with each rider there to capitalize on the other’s mistakes. In the end, it was Webb who was able to hold strong in the final moments to claim the Round 1 victory and set a positive tone for the rest of the season.

Webb: “The first round of EnduroCross for 2018 ended up being really exciting. So much carnage and a really slippery Main Event made it treacherous almost every lap. I’m really happy with the setup on my bike so far this season. You know, I didn’t have much time on the bike leading into the race so to come away with a win like that, I was really happy. I’m excited to get better physically and get more in sync with the bike and see how the rest of the season goes.”

In the Women’s Main Event, Martinez got off to a great start out front but she was passed early on by KTM-mounted rider Shelby Turner after struggling in the Matrix section. Martinez continued to battle in the second-place position for the first four laps of the race. On the fifth and final lap, Turner made a mistake and Martinez was there to capitalize as she rode on to secure the opening ground victory. Turner was able to remount and ultimately salvage second-place.

Martinez:“During the last day practice I was feeling great on the track and super pumped for the Main! With our Women’s Main Event being the second-to-last race of the night, I was expecting a greasy race track because of all the water being drug around in the night show races before ours. I got a good jump off the start and came around the first turn in the lead but I struggled going through the Matrix section, which was a section that I was getting through no problem until that point. Then I realized how slippery the track actually was and from there I probably rode the worst I ever have. But I hung in there and dug deep to capitalize on the leader’s mistake on the last lap to take the win. I’ll be riding with the sprinklers on till the next round!”

The 2018 AMA EnduroCross Series heads to the OC Fair & Events Center Racetrack in Costa Mesa, California on Saturday, Sept. 15 for Round 2 of the six-round series. For more information, please visit www.endurocross.com.
