The final round of the National Motocross Championship is about to unfold, and for Red Bull KTM the stakes are higher than ever. The orange team is on the cusp of snatching up the two premier championships.

Taking centre stage in the prestigious is MX1 Class is Tristan Purdon, who stepped into the championship lead at the penultimate round of the series. The rider is just 5 points ahead of arch rival Matthew Malan, who will look to reclaim the top step that he has held for the majority of the season.

While Purdon may have been off to a shaky start, he discovered a rhythm in the last few rounds that the chasing pack have struggled to match. Purdon is under more pressure than ever as he steps into the season finale with his competitors ready to pounce at even the slightest sign of weakness.

In the MX2 Class a battle between the orange teammates is looming large. Leading the pack with a 7-point lead is Kerim Fitz-Gerald. If there is any rider with the experience to hold onto a championship lead at this point of the series, it is surely the nine-time national champion.

“Terra Topia keeps the racing close and there isn’t much opportunity to separate the guys. Good starts are going to be key and staying up right is obviously the most important,” said Fitz-Gerald.

Not only will he face fierce competition from competitors like Anthony Raynard and Slade Smith, but from his very own Red Bull KTM teammate Joshua Mlimi.

Mlimi has been eager to shake off his ‘rookie’ status in the MX2 Class and finally experienced the breakthrough he’s been waiting for this year. The rider has stormed to victory and multiple podium finishes over the course of the season, and with only 9-points separating him from the top of the leader board is still very much in contention for the title.

Rounding out the team this weekend is the rising Nate Mc Lellan, who currently holds the third spot in the Pro Mini Class and will be chomping at the bit to close out this season on a high.
