The next stop on the National Motocross Championship takes Red Bull KTM to Pietermaritzburg’s Thunder Valley, KwaZulu-Natal. With rain predicted, the event promises to be one of the most thrilling rounds yet.

The Red Bull KTM team enters the weekend in red hot form and will have hopes of keeping the momentum rolling and extending their leads in the MX1 and MX2 classes.

The last round saw standout rider Tristan Purdon reign supreme in MX1, winning back-to-back races to defend his red plate. Having put a lot more time and effort into the build-up for the MX2 race this week, he said: “I’m feeling good for the weekend. I’ve put in some more time on the KTM 250 SX-F and adjusting some settings on that, so I’m very excited.”
Purdon’s excitement is unwavering, despite unforeseen weather conditions. He added, “It looks like there’s some rain forecasted, so we are preparing for some mud. I’m just going to try and do better than last year!”

Much like Purdon, Cameron Durow is eager to get back out on the track to snatch another victory and defend his red plate in the MX2 Class. He said: “I am leading in MX2 for the first time in a really long time, so I am really excited to ride with the red plate on my bike. I’ve been working really hard and I'm excited to have another race under my belt after this one.”

What makes this race sweeter for Durow is that he will enjoy the home ground advantage at Thunder Valley. As for the weather conditions, he is not concerned and is ready to take on whatever may come. “There’s a lot of rain predicted, and I know I’m really good in the mud. I won last year in the mud here; so I am looking forward to a muddy day. But if it’s not a muddy day, I am also looking forward to it because I really enjoy the track, regardless. I think it’s going to be a good day.”

Joining him is Jonathan Mlimi, who successfully debuted in the MX2 class last week after his highly successful season in the High School Class. The rider feels confident about this week’s race and hopes to continue his streak of good form.

He commented: “I’ve had good results from the past two years at the track in Pietermaritzburg; I managed to win last year, even with the muddy conditions. I’ve been feeling really good on the KTM250 SX-F lately, I’m getting better and better every time. Training has been good and I’ve really been putting in the work. In the second moto in the last round I managed to lead a few laps clear of Cameron, the red plate bearer. I'm just 8 points behind the leader, so I'm hoping to make up ground.”

Rounding out the team is young gun Trey Cox, who also had a stellar start to the season. The rising star took his first overall win in the Pro Mini Class earlier this year, something he describes as a massive confidence boost for the season ahead.
