Round 9 - AMA Pro Motocross Championship - July 27, 2019

WASHOUGAL, Wa. – Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Marvin Musquin went 5-2 on Saturday to secure third overall at Round 9 of the 2019 AMA Pro Motocross Championship at Washougal MX in Washougal, Washington. His teammate, Cooper Webb, battled through adversity to ultimately finish just off the podium with fourth overall.

It was a solid day all-around for Musquin, who claimed a second-place position in qualifying to set himself up for a favorable start to the motos. In Moto 1, he got off to a top-five start and immediately settled into fourth early on. He went back-and-forth inside the top-six for the remainder of the race, ultimately securing a top-five finish in the first moto. In Moto 2, he got off to a great start as he powered his KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION into the lead on the opening lap. He went on to lead the first 11 laps before getting passed late in the race. He fought hard in the final laps to ultimately finish second in the moto and third overall for the day.

Musquin: “I was really disappointed in my first moto result, I had a tough time getting around Cooper and unfortunately just lost my rhythm a bit and couldn’t move back up. In the second moto, I felt really good on the bike and was able to battle with Eli [Tomac] and salvage some points with a second place finish and third overall for the day.”

Coming off an incredible 1-1 sweep at the previous round, Webb was determined to keep his momentum rolling. He qualified sixth earlier in the day, giving him a decent gate pick heading into the first moto. In Moto 1, Webb powered his KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION off the line and into a solid third on the opening lap. He battled hard to fend off a charging group of riders behind him and despite a small crash at the end of the race, he was able to ultimately secure a podium finish in third. In Moto 2, he got off to a sixth-place start and eventually settled into seventh early on. He battled outside the top-five for the remainder of the race before making his way into fifth on the final lap. With 3-5 finishes, Webb was able to secure fourth overall for the day as he fought through stomach issues in the second moto.

Webb: “It was an up-and-down day for me. In the second moto, I struggled with some stomach issues – I’m not sure what was going on but after the first one I was really struggling with my stomach. We’ll get to work on the off-weekend and finish these last three strong.”
