10th Rd. Pro Motocross 2016 – Unadilla, NY (USA)
With Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Marvin Musquin at the helm, it was a solid day of racing for KTM-mounted riders at Round 10 of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship in New Berlin, New York. Musquin matched his best overall finish of the season with 2nd place on Saturday, while 450 Class Rookie Benny Bloss earned a career-best 4th overall, followed by Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Dean Wilson who finished with a season-best 8th overall in his third race back from injury.
Moto 1In 450 Class Moto 1,
Marvin Musquin powered his
KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION into a top-five position off the start, while
Dean Wilson positioned his 450 KTM just inside the top ten. Musquin made quick passes to establish himself in a podium-position early on, where he charged ahead to capture a 3rd place finish in Moto 1. Wilson dropped back to ultimately finish 11th place in Moto 1.
Moto 2In Moto 2, KTM-mounted riders once again got off to a great start as Musquin, Wilson and BTOSports/KTM’s
Benny Bloss put themselves in a favorable position on the opening lap. Ken Roczen assumed the lead with Musquin close in tow as the duo immediately created a gap on the rest of the field. Wilson established himself just behind the front-runners with a hard-charging Bloss close behind.
While pushing toward the leader, Musquin experienced a crash on the iconic “U Turn” where he lost a couple of positions. Bloss took advantage of Musquin’s misfortune as the young rider moved himself into the 2nd place position behind Roczen.
From there, Musquin charged hard to eventually regain his position in 2nd, while Bloss and Wilson showcased impressive rides inside the top five. With 3-2 moto scores for the day, Musquin secured 2nd overall at Unadilla.
Bloss went on to capture a career-best 4th overall, which ultimately vaulted him into 6th place in the 450 Class Championship Standings in his rookie season. Wilson continues to establish himself in the standings after three rounds of racing following a knee injury.
Troy Lee Designs Red Bull KTM’s Justin Hill narrowly misses podium at UnadillaComing off a restful two-weekend break,
Justin Hill led the way for Troy Lee Designs Red Bull KTM team at the historic Unadilla National with a solid 5-4 moto result for fourth overall. His teammate
Mitchell Oldenburg also put in a solid ride in sixth overall after finishing the day with an 8-9 moto score.
Jessy Nelson, who’s still returning back to 100 percent, shined in the first moto but had to settle for 14th overall.
Hill made his return to racing just before the break, scoring fifth overall in Washington. This weekend, he pushed with the same speed he showcased at the end of July, keeping his
KTM 250 SX-F FACTORY EDITION inside the top five in both motos.
"It’s great to come back and feel good, racing at the front,” said
Hill.
“I am really looking forward to keeping this up and finishing strong the next two rounds.”Oldenburg, who has battled hard at every round this season and currently sits 10th overall, didn’t disappoint at Round 10. He got two good starts and put together consistent top-10 rides in both motos to finish just outside of the top five.
Nelson also started well in both motos and used that to his advantage in race one as he crossed the line in sixth place. Nelson went down in Moto 2 and was unable to finish the race. Updates on Nelson’s condition will be made on TroyLeeDesigns.com as they are available.
The series has just two rounds left with the penultimate round taking place next weekend at Budds Creek Raceway in Mechanicsville, Maryland on August 21.
