KTM Racing Team's Zac Watson raced to a top-five finish in Round 5 of the 2026 Australian ProMX Championship at Appin on Sunday, continuing his strong run of form as the series entered its second half of the season.
Watson was fourth fastest in MX1 qualifying aboard his KTM 450 SX-F in New South Wales, before recording the sixth-quickest time in Pole Shootout with a 2:03.215s lap as intensifying morning rain added to the challenging conditions.

He then pieced together a consistent 5-7 scorecard across the double-moto format at Appin, earning fifth overall for the round – his second-consecutive result inside the top-five. As a result, Watson now sits sixth in the MX1 standings heading into Traralgon on July 12.

Zac Watson: “It wasn't too bad of a weekend for me at Appin. I started with P4 in qualifying, which was solid, while the Pole Shootout wasn't as flash because I couldn't get a flow with how difficult the track was. I put that one behind me and got a solid start in Moto 1 and I was running P3 for a while, but unfortunately, I tucked the front in one of the slick spots, which dropped me back a bit so I ended up fifth. And then in Moto 2, I came together with a rider just out of the gate, which put me a fair way back. I fought my way up to P7, we finished fifth overall for the round and scored some solid points, so overall it was a good round."

In the MX2 division, KTM Racing Team duo Dylan Walsh and Byron Dennis were on pace from the outset at Round 5, powering their KTM 250 SX-F machines to first and second on the qualifying timesheets. Walsh ultimately secured pole position by 0.492s over his young teammate.

A rain-soaked circuit greeted riders in MX2 Moto 1, with 19-year-old Dennis battling the conditions to secure fifth place. He backed that up with sixth in Moto 2, with his results earning sixth overall for the round and allowing him to retain third in the MX2 championship.

Byron Dennis: "It was a good start to the day here at Appin. Qualifying went well and gave us a good gate pick for the races. I had a bit of bad luck early in Moto 1 and got caught up in some traffic with all the chaos from the wet conditions, but I worked my way through that and charged back to fifth, so that was a positive. Moto 2 was a different story. I got caught up in a few more dramas, and it just felt like I was pushing up hill the whole race. It happens sometimes, so we'll take what we can from it and move on to the next one."

Walsh finished directly behind teammate Dennis in the overall classification, piecing together an 11-5 moto scorecard for seventh overall. He now sits fourth in the MX2 standings as the series heads to Traralgon next month.

Dylan Walsh: “To be honest, it’s pretty frustrating, and it’s not the result we were after. I felt really comfortable on the bike in qualifying, so to come away with P1 by a good margin showed we had the speed. In that last part of Moto 1, we were dealing with an issue and just trying to manage it and get it home, and then with a few laps to go, we got hit with an in-race penalty, which really put a dampener on our day. It’s a tough one to take because the bike is in a really good place and everything was there for a strong result. That’s racing sometimes, I know what I need to work on, and I’m keen to bounce back at Traralgon. The whole team’s been working hard, and I really appreciate their effort. We’ll regroup and come back stronger."

KTM Racing Team-supported MX3 rider Jackson Fuller delivered a breakout performance at Appin, claiming his career-first overall victory. Fuller set the pace in qualifying – fastest by more than one second over second position – before racing to 1-4 moto finishes aboard his KTM 250 SX-F.

Following five rounds of competition in the 2026 Australian ProMX Championship, Fuller sits fourth in the MX3 standings, just six points shy of the top three.
