KTM Racing Team newcomer Kayden Minear will miss the remaining rounds of the 2023 Australian Supercross Championship (AUSX) as he recovers from surgery on a broken arm sustained in Adelaide.
Round one of the AUSX season marked the SX2 debut for the 16-year-old Minear, who managed a strong pre-season in the build-up to gate-drop inside the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.

Unfortunately, during qualifying on Saturday night, the talented Western Australian crashed at no fault of his own when he hit a tuff-block that was on the racing line, which impacted his run in the rhythm section and caused him to eject off the bike.

Minear suffered a broken humerus bone in the incident and was swiftly operated on the same night in South Australia, with his attention now firmly focused on a complete recovery in the best possible way. He has also undergone a further procedure upon return to Brisbane with Dr. Steve Andrews.

The 2023 AUSX championship moves to McDonald Jones Stadium in New South Wales next, where KTM Racing Team’s Nathan Crawford will take to the gate in SX2 on Saturday, November 11.

Kayden Minear: “It's really disappointing to be out this early into my first season. I was feeling really comfy on the track, but during the session, unfortunately, a tuff-block was bumped onto the racing line, which I had no way to avoid. That caused me to crash pretty heavily and I broke my humerus, so I ended up having surgery on it the same night to begin my recovery program, and will miss the remaining two rounds of the series. It was a good experience though, learning the ropes in supercross and I look forward to more to come in the future.”

Kyle Blunden (KTM Group Australia Motorsport Manager): “During the Australian Supercross opening round in Adelaide, Kayden Minear faced a temporary setback, experiencing a broken humerus that required immediate surgery in Adelaide, followed by a second procedure in Brisbane with renowned orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Steve Andrews. While this incident marks the conclusion of Kayden's season, the estimated 6-8 week recovery period is a manageable hurdle. Despite the disappointing end to his impressive supercross debut, attributed to sheer misfortune, Kayden's extraordinary talent, determination, and drive are undiminished. This is a minor detour at the onset of what promises to be a remarkable career. Our utmost priority is Kayden's speedy and thorough recovery, and we eagerly anticipate his return to the KTM Racing Team stronger and more resilient than ever.”
