COURTLAND, ON – KTM Canada – Red Bull – THOR Race Team’s Jacob Piccolo returned to the 250 Pro class podium at Round 5 of the 2022 Triple Crown Series, scoring third overall with 5-3 moto results at Gopher Dunes. His teammate, Sebastien Racine, continues his consistent top-10 streak in his rookie season with eighth overall on the day.
In the first moto, Piccolo had a great jump off the line as he rounded his KTM 250 SX-F out front on the opening lap. Leading the way for the first two laps, Piccolo got passed soon after and he stayed in the fight early on. A mistake dropped him back to eighth but he was able to make a charge later in the race to eventually secure fifth. In the second moto, he got off to another great start in second and he charged through the first half of the race within striking distance of the leader. Dropping to third halfway through, Piccolo fought off some pressure late in the race to finish the day strong with a solid third.
With combined 5-3 results, Piccolo captured third overall on the day, making up points in the championship chase, where he now trails the points leader by only seven.
Jacob Piccolo, KTM Canada – Red Bull – THOR Race Team 250 Rider: “The weekend was a bit rough for me, I went 5-3 for third overall on the day. I struggled a little bit with line selection and kind of struggled with the track today but all-in-all, I made up a couple points moving into Sand Del Lee feeling good.”
Racine found himself just inside the top-10 off the start of Moto 1 and he shuffled between seventh and eighth in the early laps. Making a charge midway through the moto, Racine ultimately settled into the eighth spot, where he finished. In Moto 2, he started off in sixth and once again battled between seventh and eighth for most of the race. With a consistent 8-8 day, the 250 Pro rookie came away with another top-10 finish with eighth overall at Round 5.
Sebastien Racine, KTM Canada – Red Bull – THOR Race Team 250 Rider: “I started the day P10 in qualifying, I just need to find better and faster lines and be smooth and let myself flow a little more. I went 8-8 for eighth overall, which is not too bad. We’re going to keep pushing this week and try to get my cardio level up - still working towards that goal. Next weekend is my hometown race at Sand Del Lee, hopefully I can get back on the box and get some good results.”
Team rider Jess Pettis remains out on injury since Round 2.
