KTM Canada Red Bull THOR Race Team Newsletter
WALTON, ON – The 2022 Triple Crown Series wrapped up its nine-round MX Tour on Sunday with the second edition of the Walton National taking place in Ontario. With the KTM Canada – Red Bull – THOR Race Team lineup looking much different at the season finale than it did at the opener, the team’s two young-guns carried the weight with ease as they delivered solid results in the 250 Pro Class. Fill-in rider Jeremy McKie scored an impressive runner-up finish for the day, while rookie stand-out Sebastien Racine went on to clinch third overall in the 250 Pro MX Tour Championship with a solid fourth at the final round.
McKie, executing another strong fill-in ride for the injured Jacob Piccolo, put forth his best performance of the season with 2-2 moto scores at Walton. In the first moto, McKie found himself back in seventh off the start but a quick rally in the first few laps brought him into podium contention early on. Overtaking second on lap five, McKie made a mid-race charge toward the race leader before settling in for a comfortable runner-up finish. In Moto 2, he found himself just inside the top-10 on the opening lap and he quickly made moves into third. Racing in a tight-podium battle, McKie overtook second early on and he held it wide open to extend his gap over third-place to more than 25 seconds by the end of 14 laps.
Finishing the series out strong with his best results in the last three rounds, McKie secured a top-five finish in the 250 Pro Championship standings.
Jeremy McKie, KTM Canada – Red Bull – THOR Race Team 250 Fill-In Rider: “Overall it was a good day on Sunday. I had okay starts but I pushed through it to go 2-2 on the day and end the season on a high note with second overall.”
For Racine, it was a consistent day at the office with a pair of solid-fourths at the final round. The rookie grabbed a top-five start in the first 250 Pro moto and he swiftly charged into third just before halfway. He held onto a podium position for about four laps but a mistake dropped him back to fourth, where he ultimately finished. In Moto 2, Racine started back in seventh and he eased his way into a top-five position halfway into the race. Once again settling into fourth, Racine rounded out the day with fourth overall.
Making his debut in the 250 Pro class this season, Racine had an impressive rookie season with three overall podiums and two top-five finishes, giving him high honors as the third-place finisher in the 250 Pro Championship standings.
Sebastien Racine, KTM Canada – Red Bull – THOR Race Team 250 Rider: “It wasn’t too bad of a day – all fourths on the day – but I ended with third in the championship, so I’m happy with that. I’ve got a lot of things to improve on and we’re going to keep working for next year. The season is done and I’m happy with how it went, so we’ll keep working and come back swinging even harder for next year.”
Defending 250 Pro Class Champion, Jacob Piccolo, and his 450 Pro Class teammate, Jess Pettis, both missed the season finale as they continue to heal up from injuries sustained earlier this season.
