DUFFY PUTS KTM RACING TEAM ON TOP IN PROMX OPENER

KTM Racing Team teenager Regan Duffy has broken through for victory on debut at the opening round of the 2021 ProMX Championship at Wonthaggi on Sunday.

Battling the elements in his first-ever outing in the MX1 field, the talented 18-year-old posted the fastest time in qualifying, then raced to 3-1 results and the overall victory around the rough, technical Victorian circuit.

After starting the opening MX1 inside the top 10, Duffy quickly powered his way towards the front of the pack aboard his KTM 450 SX-F. Aside from a small mishap early on, the Western Australian made the most of his sand-riding experience to make crucial passes and charge to a hard-fought third place finish.

The second and final MX1 race started similarly, with the 2019 MXD champion having to make quick passes early on before charging into the lead on the third lap. From there he refused to back off and was never challenged as the track conditions continued to deteriorate, crossing the finish-line with a 13-second margin over the rest of the field.

Duffy’s 3-1 result was enough to give him the overall win in at his maiden appearance in the MX1 championship and he’ll carry the championship-leading red plate into the second round of the ProMX Championship at Canberra on 2 May 2021.

Regan Duffy: "I couldn’t think of a better way to start the championship. To come away with the win from average starts and making my way through the field so quickly, I couldn’t ask for much more. I came into today as the under-dog, but I knew what I was capable of and I showed that today. The rest of the field know where I’m at now, but I’m not letting this round win get to my head – it’s a long season and I need to keep it going for seven more rounds.”
