KTM Racing Team’s Nathan Crawford secured a commanding double MX2 victory in round seven of the 2022 Australian ProMX Championship at Queensland Moto Park (QMP).
In just his second national race meeting back on-board the KTM 250 SX-F, timed practice saw Crawford notch a 2m10.162s for sixth gate pick.

The 25-year-old launched to third for the opening half of moto one and, from there, showed strong pace throughout the remaining laps to slice his way to the front of the field and take an impressive 6.4s victory.

In moto two, the Queensland-based rider jumped to the holeshot and produced another clinical performance to claim the overall win with a perfect 50 points.

Meanwhile, KTM Racing Team MX1 teammate Kirk Gibbs finished the day on a high-note and won the two-part second moto equipped with the KTM 450 SX-F.

Gibbs posted the third quickest time in the Top 10 Shootout, despite a heavy fall. An average start in race one meant seventh was the best he could salvage in the opening bout.

Moto two was a different story with Gibbs crossing the line P2 in the first part, just one second from the lead. He then got to the front in the early stages of part two and withstood pressure to take the chequered flag first.

When the Olympic-style scoring was factored in, Gibbs emerged victorious for moto two and landed third overall for the day with 7-1 results.

KTM Racing Team now shifts its attention to round eight of the 2022 Australian ProMX Championship at Coolum on 20-21 August.

Nathan Crawford: “I'm really happy to get this first win with the KTM Racing Team! The day sort of started off a little bit slow for me, I got sixth in qualifying which was obviously not ideal. We sorted it out for the motos, made a couple of bike changes and got the double win. I pulled a holeshot in the last race, which made that race feel a lot easier. It was a really good day, I can’t really ask for much more - going 1-1 is basically perfect in our eyes, so keen to keep the ball rolling into Coolum next weekend.”

Kirk Gibbs: “I had a pretty good feeling when we first got out on the track, felt like I was going to be able to ride quite well today. I had a pretty big crash in superpole, which scared me a little bit... I got out of it really well, but it was pretty gnarly! First moto I just got a pretty bad start, just got pinched out, and the way the track formed it was super-hard to pass. Everyone is going super-fast these days, which made it tough. We made a couple of little changes before the last two-part moto, where I got really good starts and put myself in good positions to go 2-1 in those. It’s a lot easier out the front when you get to ride your own race and it just felt like I was at the practice track, so I'm happy to finish on a really good result and finally get a race win!”
