Christophe Nambotin wrapped up the title in what was the penultimate round of the 2014 world championship and adds it to the two E3 world titles he already owns.
The riders contested three laps of about 50 km – each with three special tests. In the E1 class Christophe Nambotin was in great form, as he topped the podium on both days of competition. On Saturday he claimed six of the nine special tests and advanced his points lead to make his claim on the title a matter to finalize on Sunday.
On his KTM 250 EXC-F he went into Sunday’s race knowing he had to finish in front of Finnish rider Eero Remes to seal his third world championship title. It was also a good weekend for E1 teammate Cristobal Guerrero who finished second to Nambotin on Sunday after a fourth place on Saturday.
Fabio Farioli (KTM Enduro Factory Racing Team Manager): “Nambotin was very fast, but he also had to ride carefully because for him it was all about the championship. It is great for Christophe, the team and the sponsors that we could take the title, especially with one round to go.”
Christophe Nambotin: “It was a difficult special test, but it was good to make a big difference between riders, and for me it was not so bad today, with no big mistakes. For sure I’m happy to win my first title in E1. Last year the decision was really difficult, because everybody said that it was not my style or not my bike. The team followed me, and we worked a lot in the winter, so I’m happy to win with one race to go. It’s a relief, but I still want to win in front of my fans in France, and I hope it will be a good race for me.”
In other offroad racing news KTM sealed the top three spots in the seven-round EMX 250 motocross championship on Sunday in Lommel, Belgium. British rider Steven Clarke won the championship for CNC Doors KTM, with Dutch rider Brian Bogers second, on equal points but less race wins than Clarke, for the HSF Logistics Motorsport Team, and British youngster Adam Sterry third for Wilvo Forkrent KTM. KTM also takes the manufacturers standings by 81 points.
