RED BULL KTM READY TO RACE GETZENRODEO

Rnd 8, World Enduro Super Series – GetzenRodeo, Germany

The GetzenRodeo concept came about in 2006 when the local motorcycle club put on an extreme race for around 30 riders. Since then, the event has grown in both numbers and stature, seeing its first international entries in 2012. Split into two parts, the morning’s GetzenRace opens the competition with a maximum of 60 riders toughing it out over a challenging two-hour course. The top 20 then qualify for the afternoon GetzenChamp race – 80 minutes plus one lap of tough, extreme enduro racing, the winner of which will be crowned the GetzenRodeo champion. 

Finding form in the latter half of the season, Jonny Walker comes into the final WESS round lying second in the championship standings. Although the overall title might just be out of the Englishman’s grasp, a strong final showing at Getzen and a runner-up finish for the season is the Brit’s ultimate goal.

 Jonny Walker: “Everything is looking up for GetzenRodeo. Coming off the back of two podium results and holding second in the championship chase puts me in a good place. I’m beginning to put last year’s injuries behind me and get in a competitive groove again. Realistically we’re a long way off winning the championship, but anything can happen. I’m proof of that last year, so I’ll go there with an open mind. At the beginning of the year I wasn’t in a good place, but now we’re in contention. I want to secure second in the championship and end the year on the podium.” 

With a win at round six of WESS – the Hawkstone Park Cross-Country – Nathan Watson has shown he is truly one of the fastest enduro riders in the world. Backing up that performance with a podium at BR2 Enduro Solsona in October, the former MXGP rider moved himself up into the top six in the WESS championship standings. Although GetzenRodeo’s ultra-extreme format may fall outside the Brit’s comfort zone, Nathan is still aiming for a solid result at the German event.

 Nathan Watson: “It’s the last round of the season, so my plan is to give it my best shot. The points standings are really close up to second and at an event like this, anything can happen. There is definitely going to be a lot of competition there but my extreme skills have come on a lot this season and I’ll be back on the 2-stroke again, which I have really enjoyed riding. If I get a good run, I know I can fight for a strong finish and hopefully come away with some good points for the championship.”

Taddy Blazusiak has spent the last couple of months on both sides of the Atlantic riding World Enduro Super Series and AMA Endurocross events. Completing the American indoor series as runner-up, Taddy’s focus is now firmly back on WESS. Third at GetzenRodeo in 2018, the experienced Polish star will not only be looking to take his first win at the tough extreme race, but will also be aiming for an overall podium position in the final WESS championship standings. 

Taddy Blazusiak: “It’s been a tough couple of months riding different disciplines on different bikes, but even though I haven’t had quite as much time as I would have liked to train for the final round of the WESS, I’m still really looking forward to GetzenRodeo. The event itself is both very tough and extremely rewarding. The crowds of fans are incredible and get behind all the riders – that gives you a real boost, especially on some of the tougher sections. Seventh in the championship isn’t where I want to finish off this season, so I’ll give it my all and hopefully with a good result in Germany I should be able to move up the order.” 

GetzenRodeo, round eight of the World Enduro Super Series, takes place near Griessbach in Germany on November 2.
