Most points for KTM MotoGP project so far in 2017 season at San Marino Grand Prix RACE 13TH Rd. MotoGP 2017 – Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli (SMR) MotoGP Red Bull KTM MotoGP Factory Racing took their biggest points haul from a MotoGP today with a tenth and an eleventh following one of the most treacherous races in recent years after torrential rain since dawn. A score of eleven points has therefore been taken away from the Adriatic coast.    Bradley Smith started 22nd, but found more and more speed as the race progressed and as the rain eased very slightly, he took his first top ten finish for KTM. The result is all the more impressive as his KTM RC16 had only ever previously done nine laps in the wet at this track. Pol Espargaro was just three seconds behind his team mate on a day that didn't quite see his set-up to his liking following the 20 minute wet warm up in the morning.   The team stay at the Misano Circuit for a test tomorrow before moving to Aragón in two weeks time.  Smith: "I think the biggest thing today was that if you stay upright you'll get some points, so I tried to play it smart right from the word go. At the start there was so much spray you couldn't see much, plus there was so much standing water but then I felt better and better as the track started to dry and then from mid race I found myself chasing Folger and then Pol so we then had our own little battle and in the final laps. I dropped into the 1m 48 bracket, which was great, to then bring it home for tenth in the end, my first top ten finish. I'm super happy to put it together on a Sunday and although it is a wet race, we now need to put this together in the remaining dry races, but certainly things are going in the right direction. A good day."   Espargaro: "I think I've tried everything today! Out on track the conditions were similar to the warm up, but this track doesn't give much grip on the rear wheel when it's wet. In the dry we were not far away at all but with only 20 minutes this morning in the wet we hardly had much data going into a 28 lap race. I ended up doing everything I could during the race...nothing more! Luckily we have tomorrow to test new things for Aragon and hopefully in the next wet race I can do a little bit better."   Mike Leitner (Team Manager MotoGP): "We knew that this weather would be difficult for everybody, but both Bradley and Pol had a clever strategy during the race as we had never done any wet laps here until this morning's warm up. It's so easy to be in the gravel in these conditions and I think they really pushed to the max out on the track today. Also huge respect to the guys in the garage as after the warm up there was so much work done in preparation for this wet race but it worked and we came away with the team's best result as a whole to get valuable points in the MotoGP Team Championship. On Bradley's side, Esteban (Garcia) is working well with him and he helped Bradley get this good result."  Moto2 Brad Binder had a fantastic result at Misano with a superbly crafted fifth position in slippery conditions that caught out even the world's best at one point or another. The 2016 Moto3 World Champion started from seventeenth place on the grid and made his trademark lightning start on track as lightning was rumbling overhead.    As the race progressed the South African had an incredible pace  on his KTM Moto2 bike inside the top ten, but he saved his best for the penultimate lap when he set the fastest lap of the race to be home in fifth. Team mate Miguel Oliveira was up to third until he got caught out by the slippery Misano tarmac to be one of 23 bikes to crash in the race.   The Red Bull KTM Ajo team now move on to Valencia where they have a two day test before Aragon.   Binder: "At the beginning of the race I saw many riders having problems, and it was not something that was reassuring. I also had a lot of difficulties, but when I calmed down I figured out how I could best ride the Moto2 bike in rainy conditions and what points of the track were really slippery. In those areas I tried to keep the bike as straight as possible, and where there was more grip I pushed a little more. Overall, I'm happy, it has been my best result in the class so far and I've achieved fastest lap of the race. On the last lap I was very strong, because I wanted to overtake the rider ahead of me. I managed it, and I'm very pleased to achieve this Top 5 we had been looking for." Oliveira: "It is bad news for the team to have suffered a crash, as the podium was a result that would have suited us very well for the championship. Unfortunately I entered corner a bit faster and it was enough to lose the front end. I'm going to take away the positives: We went fast in the race, we made a good start and we were able to fight. Now we'll have a couple of days of testing in Valencia to finish preparing for the next GP in Aragon and for the flyaways." Moto3 In arguably the hardest conditions of the day at Misano, the Moto3 race saw KTM just one place off the podium in fourth with German Philipp Oettl heading a trio of KTM RC250 GPs. Sky VR46's Nicolo Bulega was right behind him but ride of the day had to go to an incredible fight back from Bo Bendsneyder who fell and remounted mid race to see the chequered flag in sixth place.   Team mate Niccolo Antonelli had high hopes for his home race but was unlucky to tumble out.   Bendsneyder: "I'm quite happy because after the crash it was the best position I could have finished in; the difference to the closest other rider was very large. I gave my all; I learned from my mistake and I remained calm. It was very important to be able to finish the race and to pick up points, finishing in a good position, considering how hard it rained. In short, I'm happy about how the race went; of course I would have liked to have kept up the place I had at the beginning, but I'll take away the fact that I learned from my mistake in the initial stretch. That's the most positive thing." Aki Ajo (Team Manager Moto2): "Today the track provided very delicate conditions, so I am very happy with Bo Bendsneyder’s race. He didn’t do anything crazy in the beginning, but it’s normal in these conditions to suffer a crash at any time. After crashing he managed to remain calm and finish the race in a very good position; I'm happy because today was very tough. It was also a positive race for Niccolo (Antonelli), who was trying hard from the beginning and unfortunately crashed. The second fall came because he was pushing; in that situation it was necessary and I am satisfied that he pushed."
