Ryan Dungey takes the 450SX victory in San Diego for championship lead 2nd Rd. Supercross 2016 – San Diego, CA (USA) Ryan Dungey was impressive throughout the event. He was the fastest qualifier and went on to take the heat win to secure a top spot on the main event line-up. His factory teammate, Dean Wilson, also had a great heat. Wilson was second out of the gate and passed BTO KTM rider Justin Brayton for the lead. He held on to the front spot and went on to take his heat win. The third member of the team, Marvin Musquin, missed the automatic transfer and went on to contest the semifinal where he got a good jump and went on the finish in second place to make the final. Main Event Dungey was third at the start of the main event while Musquin and Wilson were around mid-pack and wasted no time making passes to advance to second by the end of the first lap. He took over the lead from Brayton in the second lap and went on to ride a smooth race to the finish to easily take his first victory of the season. Teammate Musquin pushed hard in the second half of the moto and moved up to ninth to pick up a top ten finish in only his second 450 race. Wilson struggled in the main, fell back some positions and went on to finish 15th overall. “I’m really excited to get the red plate back,” stated Dungey on the podium. “But, it’s a long season and this is just the second race. I just have to keep plugging away and do my work to keep up here for the long haul.” Troy Lee Designs Red Bull KTM's Mitchell Oldenburg carries team torch in San Diego Mitchell Oldenburg carried the team as the Supercross series made its first of two stops at Petco Park. With his teammate Jessy Nelson sidelined with injury, Oldenburg stepped up and looked solid all day, eventually overcoming a hard get off in the Main Event to salvage 15th. While the track was considerably shorter than Round 1, the constantly changing dirt made it technical for the riders throughout the night. Oldenburg showcased his speed during the day where he qualified third overall. He transferred that speed to his qualifying where he didn’t have any trouble moving straight to the Main Event through his heat. As the 15-lap Main Event got underway, Oldenburg put himself in great position off the start in sixth. He was battling and holding his ground, but with five laps to go suffered a high side around the start-straight sweeper. He got back up and made a heartfelt finish, ending the night in 15th. “Tonight didn’t end how I thought, but we can learn from each weekend and make improvements for next week,” said Oldenburg. “I feel like we’ve made some great progress so far and I’m looking forward to Anaheim. I’m missing my buddy Jessy, and hopefully I can hold it down for the team better next week.” Next Race: January 23, 2016 – Anaheim 2, CA (USA)  Results 450SX Class San Diego 2016 1.
